I replaced mine with stock springs. I also noticed what you mentioned about
the upper and lower spring pockets. I split the difference, top and bottom,
so neither end was in the pocket all the way. Some people claim you should
have the top all the way in (so you can see the spring in the little peep
hole). Mine seems fine the way it is.

.........................................................................
Hey guys,

I have a question about how the front coil springs fit into the upper and
lower perches on my '69 Conv. I am finishing a "subframe off" restoration
and in the process, ordered stock springs from Eaton - Detroit. I wanted it
to sit lower so I ordered (exchange) another set that were 2" lower. I made
the mistake :-) of comparing the stock springs with the lowering springs I
just received. Never should have done that. Now I have two questions.

1. If I fit the spring into the upper perch, correctly (I can be
assured the spring is at the indentation on the perch by checking that it
covers the small hole in the perch); then the bottom coil-end is about 5" or
about a half turn, from reaching the lower control arm perch indentation.
The original springs-ends were within about an inch of reaching the
indentations - which I think is reasonable. Shouldn't the springs-ends be
reaching nearly to the indentations on the perches?

2. The stock spring has what they call a "dead coil" at both the top
and the bottom of the spring. The coils I just received have a dead coil
only at one end. Shouldn't they have dead coils at both ends like the stock
springs?

I will be calling Eaton Detroit either Monday or Tuesday. But I would really
like to hear opinions from some of you with experience.

Thanks for your help
