Sheen,
I am on the digest, so excuse me if this has already been stated.
First, glad to see the progress that you have made. You are in the short rows,
but unfortunately, they are some of the most agrevating! As I recall from my
assembly, the first item of business is getting the doors where you want them.
Hang the doors and get the alignment correct with the rear quarter body line
and gaps at the quarter and rocker panel. Next is the rad core support. On my
'67 there was a large hole up there on the front of the subframe. Lots of room
to shift and play with. Hang the fenders and try to get them in alignment with
the doors, body lines and gaps. That involved shifting the rad core support
and junking the poor rad core support that I bought new and getting a different
new one... Luckily I had kept my original and took it with me to the store to
get as close a match as I could and it turned out pretty well. I sold the junk
on ebay, hope you didn't buy it...
By the way, at this point I had nothing except the doors tight. Set the cowl
panel in place and figure out how many shims were required. Then, hang the
hood and basically start the process all over again with getting the fenders at
the front to be square and even gaps with the hood.
Not an easy process, and I certainly don't envy where you are at right now,
other than that you are almost home!
Be patient, tweak it and kick back. Expect it to take awhile.
I suspect that right now your rad core support isn't where it needs to be.
Cal
