My 350 emblems, which I believe are original, slant to the front. I have had
some experience with orig vs repro "Firebird" fender emblems. The repros (at
least at the time) were thinner and lesser quality.

Everything I have seen (both live and on old 400 adds) show the 400 slanting
toward the front of the car.
