Do you know anybody else w a bird? You can boorow and test his/her
dipstick to verify yours?
But if you filled the correct amount of oil and it shows too low, just
make a mark there as being full, use a hacksaw or such to make your ne
mark, put an / across whats there...

a dipstick is $14 from Ames (plus shipping) otherwise.

Subject: Oil Level Indicator (Dipstick) - 68 Firebird 400

Anybody have inaccurate reading on their dipsticks? The oil level
indicated that it was about a quart overfilled. (So I thought previous
owner overfilled as i just got this bird on 8/20). I drained all the
oil (did NOT change filter) and put 5 quarts back in (book said 5 and 6
if changing filter as well).

But the indicator still reads over full by about a quart. I checked
illustrated parts manual and it looks like the right dipstick. Anyone
have a picture of theirs as well as maybe a pic of the engine where the
indicator tube is so i can see if the stick is wrong or the tube was
replaced with the incorrect length.

Thanks!
