Carefully use a heat gun, just enough heat to lift the glue.

Stu,

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought/knew. But they are so exactly
the same from car to car that it seems the moldings were probably applied
(mostly) by the dealer. But the question is, does anyone know how to get
the moldings off? (I really don't like the way they look.)

Dan,

There were never any factory installed side moldings on our cars. It's all
aftermarket stuff. It was a very popular thing in the 60's and 70's to add
them. Some dealers even installed them on new cars.

Hi listers,

As I look for the "perfect" 68 for the daily driver, I keep coming across
cars with door molding on the crease. Two of the three I have owned have
had it and several I see that are supposed to be original paint have it.
I've never seen in any literature that Pontiac did that, so I am guessing
that it is a dealer applied thing. Anyone know for sure? Also, anyone know
how to remove it without tearing off the paint (I removed it from both the
cars of mine that had it, but that was on the way to new paint and it really
ripped off the paint underneath-of course I just grabbed and pulled!).
