First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Finally got my car together enough to actually drive so I took it out for a spin. Power seemed way down, couldn't even break the tires and spin em and it would bog if you floored it, you could see gas mist coming back up out of the carb secondaries (no hood or air cleaner). I had set the base timing to about 8 degrees. I also replaced the factory distributor with an aftermarket HEI system. Looked up the specs in the manual and it says 9 for the reg 400 and 15 for the ram-air. So I bumped it up to 12 and took it back out. Ran a whole heck of a lot better and could easily spin the tires from a stop. Does it seem right that another 4 degrees of advance would make such a difference?? Now I'm thinking I might want to put a 3.08 rear gear in it instead of the 2.78 it's got. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Submissions to Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Unsubscribe from Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Help: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html>
