First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List
.........................................................................

Well this brings up a whole other facet to this discussion, but I was wondering
something the other day while painting my firewall:

What options are you left with if the tag has been painted and stripped a
couple times over the years and some of the raised letters are difficult to
make out now?

I agree with Brent about just enjoying our Firebirds the way we want.
Obviously, there are some things that are just outright wrong, like putting a
different cowl tag on a car to change it to what it's not, but things like
adding an AM/FM radio when your vehicle was only supposed to have an AM or
rebuilding a rusted hulk to a daily driver or show car puts one more old car
back on the road and makes the owner proud.

Granted, with all the new parts available from places like Dynacorn, one can
literally build a car from scratch. I know there's much debate about clones,
tribute cars and the like, and I don't have a real problem with that, unless
the "real deal" isn't exposed if the vehicle changes hands. As long as the cars
are being preserved in some forms, we should probably be grateful.

My guess is that the old car, or collector car market is going to be a
generational thing, namely that those who grew up in the 50s, 60s and 70s will
pay big bucks for Hemi Cudas, Camaros and Firebirds, but most of the kids today
won't give them a second look. How many 20-year-olds are buying the new Camaros?

Just my two cents.

Joe, You are such a S#&t disturber...lol

But you guys bring up what could be the debate of our generation....
and I'm referencing "car gen" not the age of this group.(-;

What to some people is acceptable restoration practices may be
considered fraudulent by others. Where is the line these days? and
really,.. who cares?

It's all about the love of our birds guys! I enjoy hearing about and
viewing every variation of restoration, whether it be a concourse,
resto-mod, full race,... whatever the owner's fancy, Just the time ,
money and memories these vehicles create for us is invaluable, as is the
varied opinions we are free to share on this forum. If your willing to
spend the time and money it takes to save another first gen firebird
from the bone yard, you have gained my respect!

I value everyone's input on this list and have amassed incredible
knowledge by listening to your threads. For that I am very grateful.

My best wished to everyone for a Merry Christmas and smooth cruising in
the New Year. (-:

God Bless

.
I just want to know where the line is. How much of the car has to be
repaired or replaced before it stops being the original car ?

Two inches from the vin tag ? two feet ? the whole cowl ? like I said.
Now-a-days, you can replace every piece of sheet metal. So, one piece at
a time or one fell swoop ?

Nothing against you. I still say if that complete rotted 'one of....'
car was sitting in front of you with a clean pain-jane ready to use as
the replacement ... it would get done.

Don't get sore....you can't tell someone's tone via e-mail
