If it was me, I'd do what you are doing.  It will look "factory".  If you stick
it by the steering col it looks like an add-on.  I was thinking of a hood tack
when I first started planning but decided I wanted to keep the hood lines
balanced too.  I was going to do a rear spoiler too but changed my mind.
Anyone want to buy one??

Subject: [FGF] Hood Tach Alternative

.........................................................................
All the discussion about hood tach placement's been very interesting. I have a
'68 convertible 4-speed with a console and no tach. The console has the clock
option. Although the placement's not ideal, I'm thinking of mounting a small
tach where the console clock goes and angle it toward the driver. I found a
small Stewart Warner tach that fits right into the clock shell. I know you're
eye is diverted from the road a little to see the tach, but, personally, I've
never been a fan of hood tachs because I think they spoil the balanced lines of
the hood, but that's just me. Anyone have thoughts on the console tach? Another
option is to mount one to the right or left of the steering column, which has
better line of sight. Comments?
