Mark, since the OP was referring to "aliases.conf" he evidently isn't trying to work with Firebird 3, which doesn't have aliases.conf. In prior releases, firebird.conf is relevant locally only if the client is fbembed.dll (renamed or not) and the developer wanted non-default config settings. The OP (a self-confessed newbie) was asking about remote connections. Helen
