Please consult the release notes: https://www.firebirdsql.org/file/documentation/release_notes/html/en/2_5/rnfb25-general.html In general it is not necessary to backup and restore within the same ODS, if it is necessary (or recommended), this is explicitly mentioned in the release notes. The only backup and restore that is recommended is if you created the database in Firebird 2.5.1 (including restores to that version) and move to 2.5.3 or higher.
