unfortunately, extensions can cause conflicts with one-another. If you're using Firebug for development work, I strongly suggest working with a clean profile that doesn't include lots of other extensions. Especially if you're seeing strange behavior like this. Do a search for Creating Firefox Profiles for links to SUMO with instructions on how to do this if you're not familiar.
