I've noticed refresh problems with the larger cmd line for a while.
It's actually somewhat better in 1.4 betas, in that it used to just
get completely erased; now it's there. but with newlines gone.
However, ctrl-Z used to restore it, and now it sometimes brings back
the separate-lines version, sometimes doesn't. Repeating ctrl-Z,
sometimes you pass by a correct version, sometimes not.
