I've not heard of something similar. I guess that if you create a new firefox profile (config file), then install Firebug you will find all is working. Then you can add your other extensions. My guess is that everything still works. Finally you can copy your bookmarks over. Eventually this may happen again, maybe then you will notice what triggers it.
