I've had exactly the same problem - firefox upgraded to 3.5.5 and then
prompted me to get the latest 1.4.5 firebug, which says will be
installed on restart, but then doesn't show in the list of add-ons.
I don't have Kaspersky, but am running with Microsoft Security
Essentials on Vista - I've tried disabling its dynamic protection, but
still am unable to get Firebug working again. Would anyone know of a
solution?

Thanks.
