A follow up on this.  I found that I still had version 0.3 of FireQuery and 
apparently version 0.4 is required for Firebug 1.5 / Firefox 3.5-3.6.  When I 
updated or disabled it the problem went away - not even a new profile needed :-)

Should that compatibility issue be picked up by Add-ons?
