The printer I have is the
HP Deskjet F2430 All-in-One Printer

It comes with the software I mentioned before.  I did a default
installation.
I had firebug already installed and working before I installed the HP Smart
Web Printing plug-in.
Then I noticed the problem.
The firebug icon was greyed out and the Menu item (Tools->Firebug) didn't
expand, the firebug console didn't show after I clicked the icon.
