I have basically the same problem, but in addition, I can't manually
"explore" the DOM either.  If I click (double click, click on the
arrow, everything) on items to expand them, it won't.  I can't get any
further than having the basic html object expanded w/ head & body
displayed, then I can't expand either one.

FF 3.5.7, Firebug 1.5, OS 10.4.11
