Er, it appears to not be related to jQuery, but rather to a stylesheet I was including in the <body>. Moving that back to the <head> appears to get things back to normal and working. Not clear why the new firebug-lite would be sensitive to this, but having stylesheet references in the <body> is non-standard behavior...
