Sorry for the late response.

I have fixed some bugs in the XHR watcher this week that was
causing conflicts with other libraries (like jQuery) under some
specific circumstances (like a *synchronous* request, or a request
made before Firebug Lite UI finish loading). So, the error you're
seeing may be related to these issues.

You can try loading the "nightly version" of Firebug Lite, by using
the following URL in your <script> tag, and see if this version is
working as expected:

http://fbug.googlecode.com/svn/lite/branches/firebug1.3/build/firebug.js

Please note that you must use the ".js" file and not the ".jgz" once
the googlecode.com does not support gzip hosting. Also note that
being a "nightly version" it means that this file are likely to change
more frequently, and it may contain other bugs and/or incomplete
features.

Yes, but Firebug Lite should be able to work even when the stylesheets
are attached to the <body>, so if you came up with a small HTML file
that reproduces this problem, please post in our bug tracker and I'll
investigate the issue:
