I was not able to reproduce this problem on Windows 7. I guess it is a Firefox 'XUL' problem, we don't have any code that deal explicitly with the resize of the full UI (we deal with resize effects on panels).
You can make the whole browser window larger, then make the Firebug part smaller, then change the browser window back.
