Please read http://blog.getfirebug.com/2011/08/03/firebug-start-button/ why we decided to move the Start Button to the toolbar. Though the button should never completely disappear. If it's not in the toolbar, not in the status bar and also not inside the Customize Toolbar dialog, then this is a bug and you should add it to our issues list: http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/entry Note, you can always open Firebug by pressing F12. Pressing it again minimizes it and pressing Shift+F12 deactivates it again. Also you can find it under Firebug Button > Web Developer.
