Minor, but annoying. I guess you have: extensions.firebug.showStatusIcon set to true
1) set the pref to false (about:config) so, the old status bar icons disappears. 2) open the Customize dialog 3) Move the new Firebug start button from the toolbar (or from the customize toolbar dialog) to the addon bar (to the left of the existing icons) This works for me.
