I checked the add-ons and turned many of them off.. then I noticed that the firebug addon said something about having to reboot firefox so I did and now it works. Funnything is, I have rebooted firefox about a dozen times before going to the add-on's page. So while the problem is solved, I guess I'll never know if it was the addons I turned off or this last reboot. Regardless, thanks very much for directing me to it.
