I suppose it must be that Firebug calls insertRule et al. through
XPCNativeWrapper's, i.e., it doesn't hit <page
window>.CSSStyleSheet.prototype.
insertRule but goes directly to the native insertRule instead. Really,
you'll just have to write an addon and listen to Firebug's
"onCSSRemoveProperty" etc. "events" (see the code in cssModule.js).
