I just tested this and it works for me just fine (Firefox 20, firebug 1.11.2, Win Vista, Notepad++ 6.3.2)
You might want to create a new Firefox profile and install only Firebug in it, to make sure there are no collisions with other extensions. https://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/Install_Firebug_into_a_clean_profile Does it help?
