Sorry for the extremely late reply on this. For reference, as the FAQ to Firebug describes <http://getfirebug.com/faq#Why_does_resizing_the_Firebug_frame_display_a_gray_block> there are three other extensions causing this problem:
- Lazarus: Form Recovery 2.3 ( seems to befixed in version 3.2) - Pentadactyl - Zotero Also this may happen when you have Firebug attached to the top as described in issue 7717 <https://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=7717>.
