Anyone who has experienced Melissa, ILOVEYOU, or any of the recent
wave of similar viruses knows how long it took the AV vendors to
update their definitions and virus databases. In the meantime, you
had to block the attachment from being delivered, and try to delete
all occurrences of it in your mail system. Notifying users not to
open it is a helpful precaution as well. When the full name of the
file isn't known, and you can't block all files of a specific type
for other reasons, there's not much else to do until antivirus
companies catch up to it..
