I worked for an ISP that used UUNET, and still use the same ISP.  When its
up it seems to move things along quite well.  However, they have had at
least 3 major fiber cuts in the Jacksonville area that has crippled service
for almost 24 hours at a time.  Have also used Sprint and another that
escapes me right now, that hasn't has nearly the number of problems.  
I would say no, not worth the extra money.
