The rookie says to the hamburgler:
Depending on the application and the rationale behind your site's
security policy (e.g. it makes a difference if your site identifies all
off-site remote shell access as a security risk, as opposed to remote
access using unencrypted connections), you could ask your security folks
to consider giving you access to the ssh (secure shell) facility. If
you think it's worth the trouble to make the request, this is your best solution.
Ssh provides telnet functionality (and a great deal more) over an
encrypted channel.
Trying to circumvent security policies and being caught in the act is a
good way to get fired. Given the way that you have asked for
assistance, I wouldn't try to hack your own solution, as there is a high
probability that you will only irritate your security administrator
(assuming he is competent to carry out the security policy he is tasked
with enforcing).

P.S. "You people"??? There's a sociological bombshell of an address...
Any cultural studies people out there want to have a go at this
message? Perhaps some script kiddie polemicists?
