The "crappy little pop-up" window is typically used to notify the user of a
connection process if they've enabled the Automatic Rule Checking option.
Once the firewall has been properly configured and there's no longer a need,
you can go to Rules, the appropriate adapter, then check "Off" under the
Automatic Rule Checking Option...
re: security. Yes, it was true that the early versions (I think it was the
first release) were susceptible to certain attacks, but this had been
addressed in the subsequent release (about 2 rev's ago)
