The timeout can be caused by two different versions of MS-Chap.
You have to know what your PPTP server uses (for instance MS Chap 2.0) and
than make sure that the client uses the same version ( to use MS Chap 2.0
on a Win client you need to install the newest dial-up adaptors from M$)
If you use Windows 2000 you can choose which version of MS Chap you want to
choose, but you can choose only one (this means it doesn`t negotiate).
