Host vs DNS

Hi there,

        Have a question to pose to all of you.  I have tried to explain in my own 
way a host and dns.  Can anyone shed some light on this matter, i feel like 
i keep trying to explain over and over and no one can hear me. so in short

whats a host?

whats dns? ( i know what it is )

how are they different
