As distilled from the URL, you need > 2MB Flash and > 16MB RAM. The only
offered upgrades are 16MB Flash and 128MB RAM. Yeah, it seems a bit of an
overkill for the upgrade, but ah well, better to upgrade RAM and Flash once
and be done for several years, than upgrade to 4 MB flash and have to
upgrade again in a year or 18 months. IMO

Yeah, unfortunately it works however depending on the version of PIX your
customer is using don't bother calling Cisco for help with all of the
problems you will face because you are now running an unsupported
configuration.

Newer PIX units don't require 128mb of ram (as you have noticed) however the
original post it was stated that they were upgrading from version 4.0, which
one would assume came on their PIX 1000 or PIX classic, which DOES require
the PIX 128Mb ram upgrade.

You are correct however in that the 16mb flash IS required. Thank you for
that correction.

Here is the documentation straight from Cisco if anyone is as confused as I:

(you may need a CCO acct.)

Hi,
We successfully installed pix 5.2(2) on pix with 32mb and 16Mb of
flash (Flash upgraded from the old amtel 2mb flash).

Also, we upgrade customer pix using "outside" interface, downloading new
pix version from our tftp server on internet.

thanks anyway Network Operations
