The CISSP cert. is intended as a high-level verification of security
knowledge (most of managers and up). It does not guarantee that the
individual has any hands-on experience. ISC2 has created a new SSCP -
Systems Security Certified Practitioner, that is supposed to be more
technical, and there are supposed to be sub-specialities with that
certification. Going to the provided training for these certs is optional
as test candidates can study on their own.

The value is really in the perception who's requiring a cert. and the
knowledge and capabilities of the person possessing the certification.
CISSP is often a preferred or sometimes required on a lot of the postings on
the [EMAIL PROTECTED] listserv, as an initial qualifier. So
the value in that case would be that a "ticket" would be punched, but I
believe actual job experience plays a more important role in capabilities
than a list of certifications.

This topic has been discussed at length on the CISSP Forum.

Just my own two cents.

I too would like to see the replies.
I would also like to expand the question to include the CISSP certification.
