There is no one single order; different operating systems
prefer different orders, and configuration options also
change the order. The Microsoft resource kit documentation includes
large numbers of flow charts showing what order is used when.
Default order for Windows NT 4 with all kinds of resolution
turned on is cache, WINS, lmhosts, NetBIOS, hosts, DNS; I
believe 2000 is cache, hosts, DNS, WINS, lmhosts, NetBIOS.
Windows machines will often try NetBIOS before WINS.
