Greetings one and all, first time posting, though I have been following
the list for the last month or so. I finally decided to ask a question
that has puzzled me for quite a while. I am responsible for a mid-sized
LAN, using Linux, SGI and, soon, Sun hardware.
I also work in a heterogenous network enviroment, and many of those
servers are Suns. This (finally) brings me to my point.
Why is everyone so adamant about never putting X on a server? it's
obviously there on Suns. it is of course, not even an option in Windows
enviroments, (but lets leave them out of this....) and in my experience
with SGI's you don't have the option either.
So, This leads me to believe that Linux has a flawed security policy
regarding X, that it is so unsafe as to not be allowed on servers at
all... Or am I wrong?
Please, don't flame, I'm just trying to understand... I don't install X
on any of my servers, but then certain tasks are more difficult (my gui
tape backup program, for one.)
