I bought it at 'Best Buy' which was offering a "free setup" service, I
guess so they could perform all the registration and install all the
'try this for free' type stuff. The box itself had not been re-packaged
but I have no idea what software they actually installed. Next time I'll
just set it up myself just as I have always done. That way I'll know
what has been done to it.
I am fairly familiar with WinNT 4.0 but this Win2000 ME stuff is all new
to me. I have used ZoneAlarm on the box and did not see anything
suspicious trying to connect to the network, but the ping/ICMP traffic
is there. I would love to know how ZoneAlarm can figure out what
application is used for a given connection. I could then use the
information from the sniffer to figure this all out. Anybody know of any
tools that can identify the Application for a given port on WinME?
