mostly it is a matter of which CPU taks are running off of. If your shell
is local to your machine, it's CPU is tasked with handling the IO for jobs
you submit. If the shell is on anothger box, it's CPU is tasked with the
IO processing. Most folks these days like the ISP shells for running irc
clients and 'bots'.
