Having both makes it a lot easier to figure out what's broken
where, when all you know is something appears to be broken somewhere.
When I'm not debugging I prefer using the shell account on my own box
where I have the root password, and can install any software that needs to
be installed, reconfigure anything the needs reconfiguring, without having
to beg someone who has the necessary privilige to do it, when they get
around to it.
