Jeremy,

#Any input on Sidewinder would be greatly appreciated.

First off, I am a little biased since I used to work for Secure Computing.
I think that the Sidewinder is the best commercial firewall available. I
have worked with the Sidewinder extensively. I have installed several PIX.
I have also done some playing around with the IBM firewall. The Sidewinder
has an extensive amount of application layer proxies, is very configurable,
very secure, and especially now that V5.1 is out is much more up to date
than it used to be. It runs on a heavily modified BSDI 4.1 kernel. It now
supports most hardware platforms. I prefer the Compaq DL380 or ML370.
It's biggest issue in the past was speed. It has always been very secure
but it was pretty slow. Now that they have updated the kernel and done
some other work it is much faster. They are putting a lot more work into
the GUI which is looking pretty good although I'm kinda nostalgec for the
old one=) I also like the whole Trusted Operating System design. I have
written some other e-mails in the past on the Sidewinder TOS design both
here and on firewall-wizards. If you have any more specific questions I
would be more than happy to answer them.

Regards,
Jeffery Gieser
