I'm just flowing from my anti-VPN rant mode to an anti-IDS rant mode- both
of them are marketed differently than I'd ever deploy them for maximal
vaule.

I don't think we differ on that, most host-based IDS is anti-malware in my
mind too, I just view net and host-based IDS as more reactive than
proactive, and I'm a bigger fan of proactive security.
