Hm.... my pricelist state a price difference of 10% between VPN and non-VPN for
FW-1

Even better: "Yes, the PIX is great - I only need all the admin courses and full
Cisco certification (paid by employer of course) to be able to manage it securely
*BEFORE* it is being installed for production." If that does not spook him off
you get at least training for free. See it as a chance to learn more - and to
increase your market value...
