There are many ways...the most humorous that I heard happened right
here in my hometown about 4 years ago and the local newspaper/media
AND police were TOTAL idiots, it was hilarious!
They found this guy in HOBO clothes all tattered and dirty with no ID.
He was found to have an IBM ThinkPad, a modem, a wire with some
alligator clips on one end and RJ11 on the other, and a SLINGSHOT.
He was in a bush and had opened up a telco box and had his laptop
plugged into the punchdown blocks and was "accessing the internet".
The story in the paper ran along the lines, "The Internet is for
everybody, even the HOMELESS. Homeless youths are using the inet
to better themselves so they can find work...blah blah blah"
1) He was not homeless. He only dressed that way with cheap clothes
from a thrift shop which he soiled to make a good cover story.
2) Homeless people would sell the Thinkpad in a heartbeat for:
alcohol, crack, and lastly FOOD. (probably in that order)
3) The SLINGSHOT was used to shoot out any nearby street lights
to make it harder to see him working. He told the cops it was so he
could get FOOD if he was hungry. (mmmm, skewered rat!)
They let him go SCOTT FREE and from what I heard did not confiscate
his laptop. If it was me, I would have rigged it so that it booted
to a partition wiper just in case...
People are such idiots, I wonder how many people in town actually
knew this guy was hacking/phreaking???

will access your site from public data terminal (such as internet
cafe where u pay in cash) or even use public terminal at the
local library or computer store etc.
