What is the OS of your home system? If it is earlier than Win2K itself, it would require Netbios and WINS to resolve names, so it needs to have a LMHOST file with entries pointing to your Windows 2000 DNS and master controller server. Your home machine is doing a broadcast to try to find the network shares, but that broadcast does not get transferred over the VPN. The LMHOSTS entry tells it to use WINS instead and Win2K DNS server answers both DNS and WINS requests.

Cornelius Sent: Tue January 22 2002 17:53 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: VPN issue I know this is not a firewall issue, but I'm at my wits end. My problem is the ability to browse a windows 2000 network thru a VPN connection. The VPN concentrator is working just fine and I can connect to our network just fine, but I cannot see anything on the network. I can ping everything, but I am not able to browse network shares or even see them in the network neighborhood. This does not bother me because I use terminal services to connect to my PC at work, but my bosses think you should be able to see the network while at home working. I have opened a case at CCO and so far they do not have an answer for me. Has anyone else had this problem?
