Hello, I have a question regarding GRE and PPTP. What was the point in encapsulationg PPP in a GRE packet and then an IP packet? Surely there was some design consideration for implementing the double layer of encapsulation? I just can't see what it is. It would seem that you could create a tunnel just by encapsulating the PPP packet inside the IP header? Can someone shed some light on this.
