i guess we are simply differing here. 
i never use uppercase characters unless i must. just count the number of
uppercase chars in this paragraph :-). 

and i also use tab to verify that something does not expand. 
in other words i use expansion to do simple filemanagment tasks like
checking if a file exists or which files are there, instead of running
ls for that task simply because it is faster. i would need to use
expansion anyways to complete the argument for ls so if the expansion
itself can answer the question it saves me a step. (the downside of
course is that if the check is all i wanted to do, that never enters the
history)
