yeah, i get that too.

i like that too, but for a different reason:
the commandline provides the context for the display of the completion
list. without it the list is like all by itself, and when i juggle
multiple terminals at once, or even just browse a longer list, i
sometimes forget what command i was typing. then i get out of the pager,
typing q<backspace> ;-) just to take a look.

and while we are talking about the pager, there is a small thing that
keeps irritating me: the x to y of z counts lines, but i think it would
be more practical if it counted items, so that if there are two columns
it would say 1 to 46 of 120 completions, instead of 1 to 23 of 60 lines.

i think that would still give the same current information, namely what
part and how much of the completions are visible, but the other form
would also give the total number of completions as aditional info, which
can be useful to eg see how many files are in a directory...
