That narrows it down, but it doesn't distinguish between sentence structure
and jargon.

The snippet you mentioned is perfectly grammatical. It's heavy on passive
voice, but that's a matter of style rather than grammaticality.
Would examples help? They won't be as precise as the technical explanation,
but on the other hand, they would be more readily apprehended by people who
don't write compilers in their spare time.
