I think we were born to
exhaust these possibilities,
only; in the fog, I lost
all the trees except this one,
and in it, I found a treehouse of ghosts.
Ghosts, according to Amos Tutuola;
ghosts, according to John Crowley.
I built mnemonic tricks, a whole houseful,
decks of playing cards and wardobes
filled with dresses, and each one had
a french verb at the top and your name,
like amateur embroidery, at the cuff.
The ghosts in this house have
a feast of bugs, they have deep grey hides,
and you can barely see them with the lights out.
They are one eyed, harmless walk-through
types, and they never cut my memory,
never stole my dresses for their masques,
never dealt my cards where I kept every
single slap I asked for in blackjack.

-Tay Arrow Sherman.
