i saw jesus
on the street corner
playing three card monte
i waved and
he smiled back
a shout came up
from the old woman he was dealing to
jesus had performed a miracle!
he had made the queen of hearts
disappear, god be praised!
later on i saw him again, jesus
this time i saw him in front of
a plasma donation center
asking the folks that came out
if they could spare two dollars
for a cup of coffee
our savior would never grovel
for mere pocket change!
